Grand Valley State Goalie Rushes From The Net and SCORES [VIDEO]

Featured

THE RUSH is live out in Greenville, SC, covering the third round semi-finals of the MCLA National Championship Tournament. After beating out Washington University of St. Louis, Grand Canyon University, and today’s victory over Davenport University, Grand Valley State is locked in for the Division II MCLA National Championship final game!

Grand Valley got their lead in the first quarter and took the win over Davenport with a final score of 16 – 10. Goalie Danny Kransberger helped the lead by scoring his first ever career goal. Yes, that’s right, we said goalie – Kransberger ran out from his goal post across the field, scoring against Davenport in the first quarter of the game.
“I thought I was dreaming,” said Kransberger.

If you haven’t yet, check out the highlight below as Danny makes the crowd go wild.

Grand Valley will move on to face the St. Thomas Tommies on Saturday, May 19 in the championship game at Sirrine Stadium. “We just need to have another big team game,” said Kransberger when we asked about the team plans for moving to the finals. “We need to go back out and play as a team like we did today, and we’ll come out with the win.”

There is lots of confidence being shown out on these fields, which builds our anticipation of “what’s next?”, during Saturday’s final game.

THE RUSH Player of the Game Ryan Zeilinger and St. Thomas LAX Coach Peter Moosbrugger

Another lacrosse filled day out in Greenville, SC as the second round of the MCLA National Championships wrapped up last night, and some teams had to fight a little harder to make it to Thursday’s round of semi-finals.

Of those teams, the St. Thomas Tommies beat out North Dakota State University (NDSU) with a final score of 10 – 7. We caught up with the Tommies goalie, #35, Ryan Zeilinger who played excellent defense in front of the net and was named THE RUSH Player of the Game.

“It was a tough game, NDSU came out, it was the third time we played them this season, and we’ve been conditioned to fight through games like this,” said Zeilinger, “we’re not just putting one line in, anybody on the bench can play and can grind it out.”

The St. Thomas Tommies will face the Dayton University Flyers in the semi-finals round tomorrow (Thursday, May 17) at 1:00 pm EST, who will be coming out from their win yesterday over the St. John’s Johnnies, final 7 – 2.

“Were deep, we’re conditioned and we’re ready to go” Zeilinger added, as their focus becomes one step closer to a potential MCLA Division II Championship title. “We take every game seriously. We have a deep, deep coaching staff who knows what they’re doing, and we’ve been saying all year we need to buy into what the coaches are saying. Nothing’s going to change, we’re just going to play our game. We know how to play lacrosse at St. Thomas.”

Not only is the physical and competitive dedication strong between Tommies, but from the words of Ryan, they really seem to like each other! “We all hang out together, we go to practice together but that’s not it – we’re a family, we’re not just on the field together.”

Get highlight ALERTS from Ryan Zeilinger and the Tommies as they face Dayton tomorrow, on therush.com.

MCLA National LAX Tournament Heats Up

Featured

The 2012 MCLA National Championship is underway and the competition is getting HOT! After a day filled with 32 single-elimination games between both divisions, we’re left with 16 teams fighting it out to gain their Division I and Division II championship titles.

Coming out from some big wins last night, Chapman University (DI) celebrated their victory over Oregon (DI) with a 13 – 9 win. Michigan State (DI) fought hard until the end beating University of Colorado (DI) by just one point, final 8 – 7. “It was a great all around team win,” said Danny Berkompas, Michigan State Lacrosse, “we play hard as a team, we win hard as a team.” The overall response we heard from the Michigan State players last night was, “Three more to go!”… but that’s certainly the thought of many of the winning MCLA teams today. Chapman goes on to face Brigham Young today at 4:30 pm EST, while Michigan State will play California Polytechnic University tonight at 7:30 pm EST.

Check out all of last night’s opening round MCLA Division I and Division II content and signup today to catch the action of tonight’s games! Trust us, you won’t be disappointed in the fierce competition they’re bringing to the field tonight in Round 2.

Judson Baseball, A Year In The Making

Featured

Close your eyes…tap your toes…“There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home”. Ok, so it didn’t take ruby slippers to get there, but after an 800 mile, 12 hour trip, the Judson University Eagles baseball team has finally arrived in Hillsboro, Kansas to play in the Opening Round of the 2012 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Baseball Championships.

The Eagles will play in the five-team double-elimination tournament beginning Thursday, May 10 through Monday, May, 14 for a chance to move on to the 56th annual Avista-NAIA World Series hosted by Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho, May 25 – June 1.

Judson Baseball earned their spot in the NAIA Opening Round with the achievement of their first ever program championship for baseball in their conference, naming them the 2012 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Champions. “This year, the team has had tons of from behind wins,” said Adam Ledyard, Sports Information Director for Judson University, “they have done a lot of team bonding through the year, and when they get into a situation that they’re down, they’re not worried about it. It’s a team that will fight all the way until the end.”

This is the 5th year the Judson Eagles baseball program has been led by Coach Rich Benjamin, “all-time wins leader” at Judson, who has brought many successes to the University and baseball program. This season marked their second year in a row that Judson has won over 40 games, “an accomplishment for a northern baseball team”, says Ledyard. 2012 also marked the first time in history the Judson baseball team earned a spot in the NAIA tournament.

Check out the success the 2012 season with Judson’s baseball highlights, only on THE RUSH.

Opening Round teams hosted by Tabor College – Hillboro, Kan. include:

No. 1 Oklahoma Baptist
No. 2 Judson (Ill.)
No. 3 Rogers State (Okla.)

Judson University partners with The RUSH

Featured

ELGIN, Ill. – Becoming the first college program in the United States to partner with The Rush, Judson University has once again ventured into an area that is new in the social media world. Judson is announcing their partnership with The Rush and is offering the service now to their fans.

“This is an exciting time in the athletic communications world,” says Associate Director of Athletic Communications Adam P. Ledyard. “Judson is breaking into an area that has not been approached yet by mobile media and we are ecstatic to work with The Rush. This new feature will only add to your game day experience at Judson and in athletics. I was fascinated the first time I received a clip on my smartphone and how neat it was to see a clip from the game right after it happened. The Rush is doing something that no other company is doing right now except ESPN. I cannot wait to see where The Rush will go as they grow in this industry.”

Judson continues to be a leader in social media as they were one of the first in the NAIA to use Twitter two years ago with @juathletics and @jusports_live bringing live in-game updates along with Live Stats at the same time. Five years ago, Judson developed a new website as one of the first NAIA colleges to sign with SIDHelp. In December 2011, Judson relauched judsoneagles.com to offer more items to its fans and has become one of the top NAIA websites in the nation.

The Rush is a company that captures highlights of sporting events and will send the video clips straight to your smartphone and computer. The clips are sent in real time and received as the game is happening. Everybody that is a subscriber can view and re-live the highlights of your favorite players that you choose anytime. If you cannot make it to the sporting event, you can see your favorite player’s clips on your smartphone as they happen in-game. You can then keep these clips in your “locker” on TheRush.com and watch them at any time. To view a sample of what The Rush does, text “DEMO” to 408-899-8888 for a free highlight.

Judson is the first college program to partner with The Rush and has already produced clips for two men’s and women’s games vs. Purdue University-Calumet and Holy Cross College. Judson will continue to have The Rush at all home basketball games the rest of 2012 and will be test trying baseball, softball, and lacrosse games and matches during spring 2012.

Pump, Pump, Pump it Up!

THE RUSH is on the Double Pump Boy’s Spring Classic at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, NV and after all of the remarkable competition witnessed at the Double Pump Boy’s Hoopfest last weekend, the anticipation remains on what the players are bringing to the court this time. Mamadou Ndiaye stunned fans with his seven-foot-five-inch frame, dunking like no other high school player out there. After all, he is the tallest high school basketball player in the world, and we have got the highlights to prove it.

Aside from height alone, the Double Pump NCAA certified tournaments bring talent from across the nation – along with the eyes of Division I NCAA coaches. But if your eyes can’t quite make it to Vegas, we’ve got you covered.

“We had hundreds of thrilled athletes, parents and coaches tell us how excited they are about this new technology,” stated Christian Thompson, Director of Events. “Now we’re in Las Vegas for another Double Pump event, and we can’t wait to share what’s going on here.”

Check out highlights as they go up in real-time, all weekend long (4/27 – 4/29) from the Double Pump Spring Classic on therush.com.

Wes Leonard Heart Team and Efforts Alike Are Gaining Attention for Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Featured

The recent increase in cases of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in young athletes has raised the question, “Is a standard physical exam enough?”.  According to Dr. Jonathan Drezner, vice president of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, from the New York Times, current physical exams that include extensive medical histories fail to identify 60 to 80 percent of student athletes at risk of sudden cardiac death.

The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that 2,000 people under the age of 25 die from sudden cardiac arrest in the United States every year. In a young person, the condition is caused by a structural defect in the heart or a problem with its electrical circuitry. The most common cause, which accounts for nearly 40 percent of cases, is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a thickening of the heart muscle. The very cause in which Wes Leonard, a 16-year-old basketball standout from Fennville, MI, lost his life on March 3, 2011.

Since the tragedy of Wes, his family continues to honor his life and spread awareness about Sudden Cardiac Arrest through the Wes Leonard Heart Team. Their goals are to implement the use and access of Automated Electronics Defibrillators (AEDs) and proper training in schools, as importantly the pursuit of a widely accepted cardiology screening that is reliable and accurate.

Aside from donating to The Wes Leonard Heart Team, we were also able to create this Reel of Wes Leonard’s highlight, in remembrance of his life and athletic achievement.

Currently, the American Heart Association does not support wide screening of extensive heart tests and only requires them if the standard physical or medical history raises red flags. The argument is that an electrocardiogram (EKG) test is costly to mandate. But it is groups like the Wes Leonard Heart Team and their supporters that will continue with their mission to give all students athletes the opportunity for “just one more game”.

Do you think regular physical exams for young athletes should include extensive heart testing?

We’ve had the pleasure of capturing highlights from Shabazz since his junior year in high school, and not only do we  love this class act on and off the court, but he definitely scores some major points wearing the Red Wings snapback, the native hockey team to THE RUSH HQ.
